WHAT DO YOU WANT WRITTEN ON YOUR
Justin Moore is BACK; new album Off The Beaten Path was released today, the album features the hit single Point At You. Justin works with Miranda and Charlie Daniels on this new project. Check out my review of the new album.
Track 1: Old Back In The New School: Love the beginning of the song, first few seconds sound amazing cranked up on the truck stereo, the song goes from upbeat modern country to old school slide guitar country in a blink of an eye; probably by design based upon the title, but it has a weird vibe to it. Song to me is just ok, nothing fantastic.
Track 2: Lettin’ The Night Roll: Song is an up-tempo ballad, this song is good, and definitely relatable to any young couple first starting out. I have a feeling at some point we will hear this on KNIX. Personally to me it is just ok, and sounds like many other country love songs.
Track 3: Old Habits: This is the duet with Miranda Lambert, she sounds AMAZING on the song. This song is way slow; and definitely tugs on the emotional heart strings, I have never been divorced, but I have a feeling this is what divorce feels like. This song is good, and I like how Justin and Miranda sound on it. Personally I wish these two backwoods country singers would have sung a beer drinking hell raising duet, not a sad slow duet like this song.
Track 4: Point At You: This song is the first single off the new album. I have loved this song since the moment I first heard it. This song is great and I love it.
Track 5: I’d Want It To Be Yours: This song starts out sweet and soft, but listen to the lyrics and you are guaranteed to smile. This song is great; I love it, so many great lines. However we won’t ever hear it on KNIX unless Justin cleans up the lyrics. I really wish he would because this song is AWESOME! And trust me he is not singing about his girl’s heart in this song, he definitely loves her assets.
Track 6: This Kind Of Town: Another power ballad, if you grew up in a small town, you can relate to this song. This is a perfect song for Justin Moore. Only knock I have on this song is that it reminds me a lot of “Small Town USA” however that is who Justin is.
Track 7: Country Radio: Well from the title how could I not love this song ;) Song has all the new stereotypical country lyrics “tailgates” “Chevy Trucks” “Beer On Ice” “Pour it in your cup” I like this song, but personally it sounds like so many other hits on the radio with its cliché lyrics, power guitar rips, that I feel somewhat disappointed in it.
Track 8: That’s How I Know You Love Me: Personally this is my favorite song on the album, it’s a ballad, but the lyrics are real and powerful. Any guy who finds “that girl” will relate of this song. This is a great song, definitely one of those songs as a guy you don’t admit to your boys that you like, but you play it every night for your girl.
Track 9: Off The Beaten Path: This is the title track, and it is definite a different sound from Justin. The lyrics are familiar for a Justin song, but the sound is not. Sounds more like a FGL, or Thomas Rhett song, I will be honest I really like this song, I like when an artist breaks out of their shell and tries something different. However I can hear the diehard country fans hating on this song already.
Track 10: One Dirt Road: This song reminds me a lot of Justin’s “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away” The lyrics are good but personally I am not a fan of this song, too slow and not one I would listen to very often.
Track 11: For Some OL’ Redneck Reason: This song features Charlie Daniels, and contains a barrel full of southern country lyrics. I like this song, a power ballad with lyrics that any real man can relate to. Justin’s female fans will not really like this song, but the guys will sing every word of this song. My favorite part of the song is when Charlie Daniels comes in, he is the godfather of country and he delivers a message that makes you wanna stand up and pound your chest. This song is in my top 3 favorite songs on the album.
In closing the new Justin Moore is ok, nothing amazing and not on the level of some new country albums that have come out recently. There will be a couple hits on the album and it will help grow Justin’s career, however he had hoped this album would take him to the level of Luke and Aldean, and personally I do not see that happening with this album. When it comes to buying the album I always suggest you do, but if money is tight I would download “Point At You” “That’s How I Know You Love Me” ” For Some OL’ Redneck Reason” & “Off The Beaten Path” I hate to say these things because Justin is a great dude and I wish him the best, but this album did not make me want to play it again and again.
