People's special country-music edition contains a "Big Apple diary" from Carrie Underwood, documenting her preparations for the upcoming live broadcast of The Sound of Music.
One of the first photos Underwood shares is of her attending a production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella on Broadway, which she describes as "homework."
She also showed off the sunset view from her Manhattan high-rise balcony and a selfie she took at a festival in the city.
Underwood also revealed she's taking guitar lessons in order to portray Maria, who plays a six-string in the musical.

When Justin Timberlake was a kid growing up in Memphis, Tennessee, he dreamed about being a country music star.
Just because he grew up to be a huge pop star instead doesn't mean he's forgotten about that. In a recent interview Justin was asked about his country music dreams.

Scotty McCreery does his homework before he goes Christmas shopping.
In a recent radio interview, McCreery revealed that Pinterest is his main resource:
"When you are looking for Christmas gifts, birthday gifts or anything for your special lady -- for your mom, for your sister -- if they pin, you can see what they like, and then you just go get them."
Pinterest should sign McCreery up to be their spokesperson -- he also mentions the site in his song "I Don't Wanna Be Your Friend," off his new See You Tonight, singing, "You got your girls, and I got my boys/ You got your 'gotta see this.' Pin it on Pinterest."
At a press conference before last Friday's doubleheader of Soul2Soul shows in Las Vegas, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill brushed off the endless tabloid rumors of their split.
"I wish people would stop buying that stuff, and I wish they'd just stop printing that stuff," Hill said. "Happy is good. I don't know why happy can't be a story."
The couple's Vegas residency will end in April, and Hill also announced that she plans on spending more time at their Nashville home now that their three daughters are getting older.
"I think this will probably be it," she said of the latest string of shows. "It's increasingly more difficult with the high school thing. You've just got to be there."
Jake Owen may make ladies swoon, but they wouldn't be so smitten if they knew how unromantic he can be.
During a recent interview, Owen admitted he's not a big fan of date nights with his wife. "For her, we get to be on a date," he said. "For me, it's kinda still work."
And while he was thrilled to see his wife dressed up at the CMAs--"It's kinda nice to be the guy walking the carpet with the girl everyone is looking at"--he didn't exactly wine and dine her afterwards. Instead, he took her to Waffle House.
Taylor Swift, famous for writing songs about exes, actually "heard from the guy that most of Red is about," she recently revealed.
That "guy" is Jake Gyllenhaal, who dated Swift for two months, three years ago.
"He was like, 'I just listened to the album, and that was a really bittersweet experience for me. It was like going through a photo album.' That was nice," Swift recounts.
"Nicer than, like, the ranting, crazy e-mails I got from this one dude... It's a lot more mature way of looking at a love that was wonderful until it was terrible."
