Desert Oasis Elementary School
Dear KNIX & Fulton Homes, I'm nominating Scott Nigh (a fellow teacher) to be the Teacher of the Week. I've known Scott since I was a first year teacher 3 years ago at the same school. He has always taken on more than he can handle but in the end he always does an amazing job and gives 100% on every project he does. Scott was the coordinator of the morning tutoring program last year and would show up to school at 6:45am to welcome all the students and parents with a smile on his face. He's been a part of the school's leadership team each year which puts him in charge of his 6th grade team. By doing this, he brings any concerns to the leadership team and finds ways to improve any problems. Scott has also been a part of the schools ECC team. He takes our teacher's concerns to the district office and meets with the Adminstration to address our entire schools concerns with how things are running. Also, Mr. Nigh was the Summer School Coordinator. When most teachers take their summers off to go on vacation or to just have break; Scott goes out of his way to be in charge of the entire districts Summer School Program acting as the "Principal." He did an amazing job this past summer putting together all of the curriculum and extracurricular activities; he was able to get Music teachers from the Contempary Music school, Mother Goose storyteller for the little kiddos, and even the Science Center to hands on learning with our summer school students. Each year Scott takes on more and more to put himself out there. I have the opportunity to carpool with him to work everyday; I'm always amazed of how happy he is so early in the morning and excited to get to work to see his students. As teachers its always a rewarding experience to see our past year students and to see how they grow; Scott's previous students always come up to him and say Hey! or give them a fist pump. Everyone loves him and so do his students. Meagan Carlton
