I am honored to nominate Cheresa Leonard as “KNIX & Fulton Homes Teacher of the Week”. I had an opportunity to get to know Mrs. Leonard last year when my daughter was in her 2nd grade class. Mrs. Leonard is a kind, creative, selfless, and sincere educator who goes above & beyond what is expected to ensure the success of all students. Not only is she a success in class, but she commits herself to tutoring children after school who are in need of extra support & assistance as well as giving her time during the summer teaching summer school. Her rapport with children is natural & instinctive, she makes a difference in each child’s life by facilitating a love for learning and instilling a sense of accomplishment in all of her students which makes them more enthusiastic about learning. My daughter & countless other children still flock to her when they see her at school even though they are no longer in her class. Even before my daughter was in her class, parents of other children who previously were in Mrs. Leonard’s class told me “you have to put your daughter in her class, my daughter/son learned so much from Mrs. Leonard & you will love Mrs. Leonard she cares about her students & makes sure they succeed”. They were all right, my daughter blossomed as a learner in her class & made huge strides in reading which she previously struggled with for several years; I attribute that solely to Mrs. Leonard & the time she dedicated to helping her. Even though my daughter is not in her class this year, Mrs. Leonard has still gone above & beyond what’s expected of her to help me with things I’ve mentioned to her that have been concerns of mine, something not required of her, but because of the teacher she is & how much she cares for students & their success she continues to give of herself what’s not expected.
