Dear Ben & Matt, I am writing to you to tell you about a very special lady that came into my son’s life. Her name is Mrs. Simmons and she is a 5th grade teacher at Arizona Charter Academy in Surprise. My son has struggled every year of school. He has done summer school every year since he started 1st grade. No one would take the time to help him learn how to read. No matter how much I begged, cried or threatened the schools, no teacher cared. I was just about to give up on our whole education system when I decided to take a chance on this school. I drive my son in everyday 35 mins to school, and it is worth every second and every mile! Mrs. Simmons is my night in shining armor! Kaden was placed in her class the beginning of school. She tested his reading and called me right away and said she was really concerned. He could not read even close to his grade level. I told her I knew and I have been trying to work with him and work full time and try to get him help. This wonderful woman not only gets up everyday to teach his class, but she stays after school everyday 2 hours to help teach my son to read! I am filled with tears right now as I write this letter. She has no idea how much this means to me and my son. He is almost reading at his grade level, all due to her! He enjoys ready now, he reads everything, the signs as we drive down the streets, even the ingredients on the back of foods. He is always asking to buy books now. I can not believe how far he has come. He respects and loves her so much. He finally met a teacher that cares and shows she cares about him. He heard your message on the radio about teacher of the week, we listen to you every morning on our drive to school. He asked me to write a letter for him to nominate her. He said no other teacher deserves this more. Please help my son in showing this wonderful lady how much we appreciate every second she spends with him.
