Quail Run

Mrs. Doran really cares about children. She taught my son last year and my daughter is in her class this year. As my children are very different from each other, I’ve gotten to know how she treats each child as a unique individual and how well she gets to know her students. She makes sure to help children to play on their strengths and to challenge them to go even further and to become well-rounded people. Fifth grade is such a challenging year with children due to all of the changes they are going through. She has helped my children to feel comfortable, safe and special during this difficult time. Mrs. Doran is involved with the school above and beyond her regular responsibilities. She is sure to attend extra-curricular events such as PTA fundraisers and band concerts, just to cheer on her students (current and past). At this year’s Harvest Scream PTA event she was willing to get shaving cream pies thrown at her face and she took a LOT of pies! She also has invited her class and their families to the school playground for some nighttime star gazing through powerful telescopes. She has always been available for me and other parents to discuss issues before and after school, even when she is very busy. Her student’s always come first. Mrs. Doran loves people and is a terrific role model for children. She always puts her humanitarianism into the classroom. This year, her class spearheaded a school-wide fundraiser to raise money for the disaster in Japan. They rose over $680 in one week. My daughter also told me that they went without shoes on “A Day Without Shoes” to remember all the people in the world who go barefoot everyday because of poverty. These lessons will stick with children for a lifetime. Heidi Hulstedt Mother of Brooke (5th grade) and Dylan (6th grade) Hulstedt
